Role Overview

The Assistant Manager – Production assists in planning, coordinating, and executing high-volume greenhouse operations. Working under the Production Manager, they drive team performance, crop health, quality, and timely production—especially during peak export seasons like Valentine’s Day.

Candidate Profile

Experience & Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s in Agriculture / Horticulture / Floriculture or related discipline.

• 5+ years of experience in greenhouse-based floriculture production (especially roses) or horticulture.

• Proven understanding of greenhouse management, integrated pest management (IPM), climate regulation, and high-volume packing operations.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong organizational & production scheduling capability.

• Leadership & team management skills in a seasonal workforce context.

• Proficiency in quality inspection protocols for export crops.

• Good communication, reporting, and basic computer skills (Excel, MIS tools).

Ability to thrive in intensive, 24×7 seasonal operations, notably during export rushes like Valentine’s Day.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Production Planning & Scheduling

   • Support long-term planning (e.g. pruning schedules) to meet seasonal export peaks such as Valentine’s Day.

   • Translate monthly crop plans into weekly/daily action schedules to meet export volumes.

2. Operational Oversight of Greenhouse Activity

   • Help oversee cultivation from propagation through harvesting—ensuring correct irrigation, fertigation, pruning, and spacing.

   • Maintain environmental control (temperature, humidity, light, ventilation) in greenhouse units.

3. Harvesting, Grading & Packing Coordination

   • Oversee harvesting protocols and ensure seamless workflow through the grading hall, including hardening, de-leafing, pest inspection, bunching, pre-cooling, and dispatch readiness.

4. Team Leadership & Supervision

   • Supervise floor staff and seasonal labourers, allocate daily tasks, and ensure adherence to standard cultivation and handling protocols.

   • Facilitate on-the-job training and ensure safety, hygiene, and discipline in shift operations.

5. Quality Control & Reporting

   • Support QC efforts to maintain international export standards. Record and report daily performance, crop status, and any deviations.

   • Assist in maintaining certifications and compliance (e.g. Sedex SMETA, GC-Mark, Export House status).

6. Inventory & Resource Management

   • Monitor inputs (fertilizers, chemicals, packaging materials), tools, and cold storage logistics.

   • Liaise with procurement to maintain stock levels and prevent production delays.

7. Safety & Compliance

   • Uphold SOPs and agricultural safety protocols. Participate in HSSE and environmental compliance activities.
