Job Summary:

To supervise day-to-day propagation activities in the greenhouse, ensuring healthy and uniform plant propagation through careful monitoring of cuttings, rooting processes, and hygiene. The role supports the seamless supply of quality transplants to the main production areas in line with crop schedules.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

• Diploma / B.Sc. in Agriculture, Horticulture, or Floriculture.

• 2–5 years of hands-on experience in greenhouse propagation, ideally in floriculture.

• Familiarity with rose or ornamental crop propagation preferred.

Key Skills:

• Knowledge of vegetative propagation techniques and rooting conditions.

• Ability to supervise and train labourers in propagation tasks.

• Understanding of greenhouse systems (misting, shading, climate control).

• Basic record-keeping and communication skills.

• Alertness to early-stage plant health problems.

Key Responsibilities:

 1. Greenhouse Propagation Supervision

• Oversee propagation of vegetative cuttings (roses or other floriculture crops) under controlled greenhouse conditions.

• Ensure rooting environment parameters (temperature, humidity, misting, light) are maintained as per protocols.

• Supervise preparation, planting, and maintenance of trays/media for rooting.

 2. Hygiene & Sanitation

• Enforce strict nursery hygiene protocols to prevent pest and disease outbreaks.

• Sanitize tools, trays, and greenhouse surfaces as per schedule.

• Monitor and report any pest/disease incidents immediately to IPM team.

 3. Labor & Task Management

• Assign daily tasks to greenhouse workers (planting, misting, cleaning, labeling, etc.).

• Train new workers on handling of cuttings, spacing, tray care, and transplant procedures.

• Ensure labour productivity and discipline inside the propagation units.

4. Monitoring & Reporting

• Maintain records of daily propagation activity – no. of trays planted, varieties, date of planting.

• Track rooting progress and flag issues to the Propagation Manager.

• Record rooting success rates and transplant readiness timelines.

5. Inventory & Inputs

• Monitor availability and usage of trays, rooting media, labels, misting lines, shading materials, and report shortages.

• Coordinate with warehouse or procurement for replenishment.
