Job Purpose:

To manage and supervise the entire propagation process of floriculture crops—ensuring healthy, disease-free, uniform plant material that supports the farm’s production goals. The Propagation Manager plays a critical role in initiating crop cycles efficiently and on schedule.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Agriculture, Horticulture, Floriculture or Plant Science.

  • 5–8 years’ experience in nursery or propagation management in floriculture or horticulture industry.

  • Experience in rose, or exotic flower propagation is highly preferred.

Key Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of vegetative propagation (cuttings), grafting, or seed propagation.

  • Ability to diagnose early plant health issues.

  • Leadership & team coordination.

  • Planning & organizational skills.

  • Working knowledge of misting systems, trays, greenhouse environments.

  • Basic computer skills for report generation.

Key Responsibilities:

 1. Propagation Planning & Execution

  • Develop and implement weekly/monthly propagation schedules aligned with crop plans.

  • Supervise all propagation activities: cutting preparation, rooting, media selection, and transplanting.

  • Ensure optimal rooting conditions: temperature, humidity, light, misting, and ventilation.

  • Select appropriate media mixes (cocopeat, perlite, vermiculite, etc.) and container systems (trays, plugs).

 2. Plant Health & Hygiene

  • Implement and monitor hygiene protocols to ensure a disease-free nursery environment.

  • Work closely with IPM (Integrated Pest Management) team for proactive pest/disease control.

  • Conduct routine inspections for fungal/bacterial infections and take corrective action.

3. Nursery Staff Supervision

  • Lead and train nursery workers on best practices for cutting handling, planting, and sanitation.

  • Assign daily tasks and supervise propagation team performance.

  • Train staff on identification of poor-quality material and proper disposal methods.

 4. Record Keeping & Reporting

  • Maintain detailed records of:

    • Mother plant usage

    • Cutting success rates

    • Rooting timelines

    • Transplant readiness

  • Report to Production Head weekly on nursery status and issues.

 5. Inventory & Resource Management

  • Monitor availability and quality of propagation inputs: trays, media, misting nozzles, rooting hormones, etc.

  • Coordinate with procurement to ensure timely replenishment.

  • Forecast input requirements based on crop planning.

 6. Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure propagation quality meets internal and export quality standards.

  • Follow certification protocols (if under audit for Global G.A.P., SMETA, etc.).

  • Monitor and report variances in survival rates or disease outbreaks.
